The Dynamics of Languages for Specific Purposes
Innovative Approaches and Strategies
The Department of Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes has been organising this conference since 2008, out of a desire to bring together specialists able to further the area of foreign languages for specific purposes (also known as specialised foreign languages), a highly interdisciplinary field whose theory, research and practice have undergone dynamic changes, particularly in recent decades.
Professors, researchers, PhD candidates, undergraduate students, and specialists are cordially invited to participate in a fruitful dialogue about the disciplinary challenges and developments that are linked to technological advancement, the variety of skills required by the labour market, and the need to update educational paradigms to better reflect the needs of the global society of information and knowledge.
Our conference offers a platform for the sharing of ideas and practices about how these disciplines, by their integration of the multiple skills needed for study and work in a constantly changing society, are becoming more and more relevant to the real world of higher education and the labour market. Thus, the use of languages as a communication tool in diverse communities and their applied nature establishes the foundation for a distinctive interdisciplinary dynamic. The specific demands of these disciplines become real challenges to which we, as researchers and teachers, will work together to find solutions in the context of the acceleration of the flow of information and the change and convergence of communication environments as a consequence of the impact of technology on personal and professional life.
At the same time, considering this multicultural context, we invite you to participate in a discussion on cultural identity, its connection to linguistic identity, and its influence on professional communication and intercultural relations in general. We also propose an investigation into the novel opportunities in the domain of literary and specialised translation, along with methods of applying the linguistic perspective to the various spheres of communication in an authentic context.
